The pull is stuck on my light fixture in my basement.

I tried to turn it off, but it would not budge, so I just took the bulb out. Do I need an electrician?

  • If you are not afraid of doing it yourself, this is a doable project. I would first go buy a new porcelain fixture with the pull chain. When you are ready make sure to turn off power to that light. do this by putting light bulb back in and turning off the breaker to make sure you turned off the right one. Unscrew the fixture from the ceiling or wall and pull slowly out and you will see white and black wires. Rewire exactly the same way! you will need a screw driver, needlenose pliers, and make sure the light has wire connectors. Youtube is a great resource and just type in how to wire a porcelain light fixture. good luck

The blue wire usually feeds the light, black the fan, and white is common or neutral, and the bare wire is the ground. Replaceable light assemblies are available at the local home improvement center.

I don't mess around with any electrical in ceilings, etc.. I call the electrician. Just saying.
