What kind of glue do I use on candy canes?

I made 2 stars out of opened candy canes and peppermints using hot glue and they fell apart. I saw the picture on Pinterest and probably somewhere else too. So did it not hold because the candy canes are sticky and what glue do I need to use. I have some E6000,will that work.
Thank you

Most of the tutorials I have seen using real candy canes leave the wrappers on and then use hot glue. Since candy canes get soft or the colors run when exposed to humidity or moisture, leaving them in the wrappers will help protect them, eliminate the stickiness and give the glue something better to adhere to.

Thanks Shari. I guess i'll go back and reread it because I was sure she said to unwrap them and then when done spray with an adhesive. The hot glue won't melt the plastic on the candy?

I did it with hot glue but kept the wrapper on. I made a wreath- pretty firm. Hard to pull apart as I made a slight mistake on one.

Thanks Anna. Guess i'll get some more candy canes and give it a try. Do you think it has to do with the fact that it's just simply a one layer star,I took 2 canes and made a heart,5 of them, and glued them to make a star then added the peppermints.

If you are not going to eat them, try E6000. That stuff lasts for ever and if you get the clear color, it dries clear. I use this for making all kinds of jewelry projects, ornaments, signs. Glues just about everything.
  • Try picking up the Betty Crocker tube of cookie icing. Bonds in 4 minutes and works great. Plus, it's entirely edible.

I use Tacky Glue for all my craft projects. It sticks to anything!

Try a rubber type glue or maybe Gorilla Glue.
