How to plank your walls

My husband and I are slowly working on remodeling our kitchen. Last month we added plank walls and we think they add a ton of character! The process is very simple AND it cost us less than $150 in materials....come check out the tutorials if your interested! Here is the one about painting: http://www.domesticimperfection.com/2012/09/...

Here is the one about putting up the planks:

Very interesting. My backsplash was once covered in Formica and of course when we pulled it off, it really messed up the wall. I puttied it to get a smooth-enough surface for wallpaper, but now that wallpapered backsplash is due for a change - this could be a solution. Thanks for the idea.

What shade of BLUE did y'all use for the bottom cabinets? Sherwin Williams paint, I know. (You stated this.) Been planning on putting up at least ONE plank wall in my home. No wood anywhere in this place. Am, also, thinking about "planking" the ceiling, or maybe just the ceiling with a wainscot. Love your kitchen!

Ashley @ Domestic Imperfection, I used the items in the pictures to "move out" my outlets when I tiled the baksplash in the kitchen.
    • these are the spacers that you put behind the outlet.
    • Use longer screws #6-32 to go through them and into the outlet box.

Moving out the outlets allows for the proper clearance for the outlet/switch plate which help keep kitchen messes out of the box. Splattered pancake batter and stray ketchup/bbq sauce are the biggest offenders at my house.
