    Just looked at one where a very smart lady made her own lampshade. Search for it. I'm sure you will be impressed.

    Isn't it terrible what a plain new lamp shade costs? Reason enough to make over any lamp shade and/or save the frame.

    Thanks Judith for asking this! And thanks Tracy for a great solution. I saw another solution where patterned stockings/panty hose were stretched over the frame and also thin wood veneer glued to frame. (I'm going to use wood veneer strips for DIY scones.) My lamps are elegant w/silk shades, but maybe I will try the same idea with upscale material. Embroidery silk ($$$ ?) might work for my small chandelier style bedside table lamps. Or use some paint to dry brush or spray some black over gold on the string? In the meantime my silk is undamaged so I removed the damaged, rotting pieces and lamps look fine.
