Sorry to say this but to do something with this shade may cost more than replacing it since the inside and outside both look pretty worn and cracked. You could take everything off the frame and cover it with strips of fabric knotted along the bottom for a cute look or wrap ribbon or thin twine around and around it. If you have some old fabric or twine try it before investing in better fabric or a couple balls of twine. Since the shade is in pretty bad condition what do you have to lose ...good luck and let us know what you end up doing :-)

I covered one with a seagrass type material once: http://www.thecountrychiccottage.net/2011/08/ballard-designs-knock-off-seagrass-lamp.html ; Then the same one from before this I covered in fabric: http://www.thecountrychiccottage.net/2011/03/lamp-makeover.html ; You can definitely save it if you want to! I have seen people cover them in maps or sheet music. Depends on your style and what you want it to look like! :)

You could try some wide strips of ribbon or fabric and just wrap it for a freshened look.

My liner and fabric are crumbling, so not sure if this might get too hot!

I recently redone a hanging lampshade with spoons. Turned out great !!! Easy to do just takes lots of spoons, but cheaper than buying new shade. You can also paint it to what ever color you may want..

If you are going to use it for a lamp recover with some fabric that goes with your décor or when in doubt cover it with black fabric.

One of the prettiest re-dos I have seen is to strip it down to the frame. Then get some very fine wire (found at craft stores on rolls) and wire the strands of crystals from old chandeliers from the top circle down to the bottom circle. Then fit over a lamp or fit with the wiring to hang it!

My mother wrapped yarn to match her room decor around the wires to create a lamp shade.

This shade have to keep the plastic backing so either hemp rope or fabric and I would not use black because it will reduce the amount of light that it will put out. If you have and old shade frame then use the old shade fabric to make a pattern to replace the old worn or bored fabric. Pull it over the frame and sew by hand the edges. I never get rid of my old shades. I redo them. I have made a few new frame shade using wire hanger and a soldering rod.
