I have not measured it, but it is the smaller dish (gray) from Direct TV. Becky: I like your idea! Thank you. I've wanted a bird bath since I was a kid!

You can use it for a squirrel baffle on your bird feeders if you turn it upside down. Or attach it right side up, poke a couple of holes in it and a bit of dirt and plant some succulents in it, or something that is flat and trailing for the birds to sit on while they are enjoying the food.

I hope it works for that Mary. I wonder if you could use the flat back marbles to cover it and disguise that it is really a satellite dish.

I think the dish is made of plastic Sheila. At least they look like they are. Great idea if they aren't though.

Well they could very well be. After I wrote that I got to thinking and I'm guessing they are metal with a coating that looks plastic.

Great Ideas. I use one that I had found for a fire pit cover to keep rain out and mosquitos out of it. But before you do that it would make a great Halloween costume. The metal ones can be used as a fire pit lined with lava rocks or a fake fire pit with orange colored rope light in the bottom with crystal clear or colored stones over that. We have a path done like that and it looks like a fire pit.

Thanks for posting this question. This was fun to look into. I remembered seeing something on this site about a repurposed dish but for the life of me can't find it. What I did come up with is a combination of things. My husband wanted to make our old, big sattelite dish into a fountain base. Don't know the particulars but...it's a thought!

I used one of those old metal open weave dishes to cover my coy pond in the winter. The pond was close to the side of the house and the meter reader had to walk around it to read the meter, I was afraid he would fall into it in the winter when the snow was on the pond. A great free safety solution.
