Great share!!! I make grapevine wreaths "from scratch" whenever possible. It all started when my mother was having to sell my grandparents home where my roots grew deepest. I was walking in the old gardens one last time and was overcome with emotions and memories of my wonderful childhood in that yard. I noticed dried vines still on the plants uncared for by that time, and began pulling the almost dead material, winding and forming it as I went along the fenceline. One small wreath, then another, and with confidence, I formed a third, larger one---all were sparce but meaningful. I took them home and tied them to keep the shapes and hung them to dry further. Later, I filled in bare areas with moss, ribbon and added a few silks and dried material reminiscent of their gardens. I gave one each to my sisters and have enjoyed mine for a long time. Most of all, they loved the story of how I made them from our grandparents garden fencelines.
  • great story, Dianne!
