You could try a different color stain, or paint, and then adding some unique drawer hardware

Adorable! It looks like mid-century modern, but it could be a reproduction. I cannot see if it is finished or unfinished.

It has been painted before but it is solid wood under the paint

Looks like it's from the 70s. How do the drawers open without knobs? I personally like dark wood. I think it depends on the other wood furnitures you have in your house. Nothing matches in mine. I could use this next to my recliner and would stain it a dark red brown and add bronze knobs.

Definitely mid-century modern. Cute piece, screaming for a funky color : ) Or a shiny black finish.

So cute. I have so many ideas mulling around in my head right now. It would be nice to know what your decorating style is. My initial thought was painting it gray with chrome drawer pulls which would keep it neutral to be used anywhere.

Very cute table! There are literally tons of things you could do with it. Something that is a bit different is decoupage. It is something that is really easy. I do not know what your personal style is, but I included some picture for some inspiration. There are thousands of "how to" videos on the internet. Just an idea. Be sure to show us when you are finished!

Thanks everyone. I'll post pics when I get it done. I was also thinking funky color with some decoupage.

Pam Golden's idea for gray with chrome handles is perfect for your mid-century piece. Makes it very up to date.

Wow, I love that piece; my vision would be to darken it, strip and stain a deep, dark stain and give it some luster. I'm sure paint would be 'cute' 'nice' & 'imaginative', but dark stain and matte finish would be 'rich', 'elegant' and 'timeless'javascript:

i don't know what your style is but I would paint it and distress the edges. Here is a picture of one that I did. The picture doesn't show the details or the chicken wire very well, but you will get the idea. I was given these at a garage sale that was shutting down.

I love your little unit could be 1950s personally I would paint the top and sides darkbgrey and possibly use a wallpaper or stencil on the fronts, finish off with two silver coloured horizontal handles.
