DIY Teacup Candles

I love reusing items to give them a second life, especially when those new items are cool enough to be given as a gift. I used these teacups to make holiday inspired peppermint candles - and learned a few tricks along the way.
Aren't these vintage teacups and saucers I picked up from the thrift store just adorable?
Most of the candles got about 1/2 of a teaspoon of peppermint essential oil, but I couldn't resist trying out lemon in a couple of them as well.
I added soy flakes to the cups. be sure to fill them all the way to the brim, as they will melt down and condense. In fact, I ended up opening up the oven after everything had melted and re-filled them up with more soy flakes, so the candles weren't too small. If you loop the wick around a skewer, we sure to wrap them around more than I did- mine fell in and I had to switch the the metal-based wicks.
Check out the link to my blog post at the bottom for how to transfer images onto ceramic and other materials.
A gold paint pen added some Christmas spirit to the cups and saucers.
They smell awesome - I promise!
