DIY Faux Fireplace (for Dummies!)

Good morning everyone! We have tons of scrap lumber (and fence planks) from renovations in our home and I decided to put some of them to good use. I always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom but never had the space that a real one would take up - so I did the next best thing - I created a " faux " one - made to measure ( it hardly takes up any space at all in depth ) and now have another mantel to decorate. This has a skill level for a 10 year old basically - anyone can do it!
I still have to finish the mantel and the footings but the rest is done - and I'll definitely be doing this again! I had most of the supplies on hand - but this could easily be done for 50.00 or so (plus you can have all the wood cut to your specifications at Home Depot before bringing it home!) More photos on the blog. Have a great day !
We bracketed 3 pieces of lumber together
Added fence planks to the sides ( carpenter glue and nails ) to box it in
View from the back
Added fence planks to the front - with picture molding framing it mimic " raised panels " as well as appliques.
And painted it! Such an easy project :)
