DIY Scrap Wood Patio Dog/cat Door

I never posted this because I was embarrassed by how the door looked. Looking at the other posts done by bloggers their pictures look incredible and it makes you a bit apprehensive to post or even ask questions. But the other day I decided that I did not start blogging to worry about what my pictures looked like or to even compete with others, I started blogging to create, inspire, and teach others about gardening and DIY projects.
To be honest this door was created to solve a problem last summer when I finally had enough of the dogs and cats either meowing to get out or scratching at the patio door to get out and chase squirrels. Every hour or more I was opening and closing the door. It was frustrating and took up my time. So I had my hubby help come up with a door out of our scrap wood, some duct tape, and upholstery fabric I had. The door definitely could have been painted and made pretty but it was a temporary fix (okay it took a year and a half to buy a real door).
I am posting this door for any of you who have a patio door and have pets but do not have the $150 for a door (Home Depot online was the best price). This is just a guideline and could be adapted and definitely made prettier. I figure for under $20 you could make something similar and a bit more if you use a store bought dog/cat door.
I am searching through thousands of photos for any more pics of when the door was in place (it is easily removable). I was not going to blog about this so I never spent any time taking the perfect pictures.
Click on over to my blog for some measurements for the door. this door allows our 45 lb Australian Shepherd to go through easily and for Jack/Fox and 3 cats to go in and out. I live in the suburbs and I have never had a critter come through the door that didn't belong. This door looks awful but it served a purpose. LOL
Creating. Inspiring. Gardening without the rules!
It is not the best picture but this door sits inside the frame of the door and stays put
There are measurements on my blog and this was entirely made out of scraps!
This is our new aluminum door we finally broke down and bought and had to modify for the dogs and cats.

I love it when people up-cycle. Great use of scrap wood. My favorite use of discarded wood is birdhouses and raised bed gardens. Love your photos.

Good for you. We have 8 mini yorkies who are pad trained, but to go outside and chase one another. I'm not a breeder just a dog lover. This idea will help them get in and out without opening the door each time!
