Depending on the size, take them down and wash them (extended in the bathtub. I use Dawn as it has a grease remover. If it's too big, sweep and hose down an area on your driveway. Hot water with Dawn liquid...and either a mop or a rag to clean. Remember to 'flip'' either in the tub or on the driveway. Rinse well, hang in tub to dry.

Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because it is just the pull cord that I want to clean. The blinds are only a year old.

Oh!Only the cord..I would take the blind down and soak in peroxide, then let dry. Peroxide works on carpet stains too, and does not "bleach " the area it is used on!

Take a little bit of spray bleach and spray it and dry it off. Until it becomes as clean as you can get it.

We have a detail cleaning business but after I gave you this advice I went into my laundry/dog room. I have big windows in this room. And Vinyl blinds. I have been changing everything out to wood except my really big windows. My blinds and windows in this room were filthy. After cleaning the blinds with a commercial/oven cleaner degreaser I used a spray bleach on the cord. I put a dry room behind the blinds for over spray and sprayed them. I then took a clean wet rag and wiped off the clorox. I let dry and did this several times. It didn't hurt mine. But if your still unsure mix up some Oxy clean put it in a spray bottle and try it. It won't hurt anything and try it several times. We go into rentals and use heavy duty cleaners and I always spray bleach the blinds when we are done. But I had never done it to mine. Start with Oxy clean and see if it works if your bothered, then just test spot on the end of the cord. Hope this helps you.

Some folks use shaving cream. o use this method, put a small amount of the cream on a cloth, then rub it onto the string. It is not necessary to rinse off the shaving cream.
