I have an old linoleum floor that I want to put vinyl tiles over, do I have to do anything special to the floor first?

I used a fairly new vinyl product. It comes in various colors and it comes in "blocks" of tile.I was able to put it directly on top of the existing floor with no adhesive.it took me about 1-2 days, and am very pleased with results.I purchased it at Home Depot. It holds up like iron and really looks like tile. When you have to cut it you will need to use a sharp utility knife. They recommended scissors but I think it is too thick to get good results

@Funnygirl Thank you so much, I'm just trying to use a tile I already have brand new in boxes, but that is definitely something i'm going to look up in a minute!!!
  • It all depends on the shape of the existing flooring and what the manufacturer of the tile you purchase requires. In some cases one has to rip & scrape off the original, others may want a primer, leveling material used, etc... Their are some simple snap lock tiles (which is what it sounds like @Funnygirl used which can be laid directly on top of almost anything as long as there are no major issues below. A heat gun (if you have any curved cuts to make), straight edge & a real sharp knife are minimal tools - though if you can get one of those guillotine type cutters... that is awesome to use
