How to match the stain color on cabinet doors

We have a full wall entertainment center that was built around a 60" TV. The center and TV are 10+ years old. I have a new flat panel HDTV and have built a shelf for the TV. I would like to add cabinet doors to match the rest of the center and am struggling to color match the old doors.

Take a door off and take it to Sherwin Williams. They will use technology to color match a stain. If needed, they will custom mix the color for you. This service is free. It might take a couple of days.

I had the same issue and instead of trying to match it I chose a darker complementary color and went two tone. It looks great.

I tried that at Menards and did not get a good match. I felt after that attempt it could not be accomplished in a favorable manner. Thanks for the info!

Make sure the wood for the new doors is the same variety as the existing ones . The same stain will appear a different color on different types of wood. Try the new color matched stain on a scrap before proceeding with the doors.

Take a scrap of the new wood, if possible, along with the door you are trying to match so they can test it there.
