Painting: My husband and I just purchased some unfinished cabinets for our bathroom.

We decided to test our stain color on an extra door. We were surprised at how much the stain bled through the wood grain. This may seem like a ridiculous question... but when we tape the edges, we're worried about the stain bleeding right through the tape and making the finished product look messy. So, the question is... should we just paint the cabinets? Or is there a way to prevent the stain bleeding?

Thanks for listening to my rambling! We appreciate any and all advice :)

    Get some scrap wood, same species of the cabinets. Experiment with color, 1 coat, 2 coats etc. ...»
    For the polyurathane, oil based will darken/yellow over time, water based does not.
