I actually think white is very tricky to use in a garden, unless, of course, you have an all-white garden, because it tends to "punch holes" in the design. Glad you found a way to make it work. -
I can see what you mean Douglas -- it can def. be jarring against some tones. I love mixing it in with limes and greys. I also find the white flowered hostas play really well of the typical lavender flowers and white in the spring is just heaven :) What is your favorite mixer plant/color? -
We planted a white crape myrtle in our front yard when we built our house earlier this year. Interesting Douglas Hunt about the white, I wish I had an expert like you to tell me what to put in my flower beds-I'm starting almost from scratch and just can't put my finger on what I'd like them to be so am floundering! -
Melissa-TheHappierHomemaker : I think the best thing you can do is visit a lot of gardens and see what you speaks to you. And don't be afraid of making mistakes. I've taken out almost as many plants as I've put in. A Nest for All Seasons : I used to favor a cool palette in the garden: In the spring, when I had alliums and iris and nepeta blooming at once was ...» -
Thanks Douglas Hunt I try to remind myself I can move the plant if it doesn't work! -
Douglas Hunt - love your take on colors...I've never gardened in a tropical subclime before -- sounds like a jungle ;) What are your favorite tropicals for zones 5/6? Does it seem insanely out of place for us to be planting tropicals all summer long only to drag them out again? -
One of my favorite garden designs to do is the moonlight garden with whites and silvers. -
This crepe myrtle is very pretty! I am not familiar with it.I would love to have a bush that flowers all summer here . -
A Nest for All Seasons: Zonal denial is a powerful thing! I'm not one to dig up dahlias or drag a bunch of things in for the winter, so I'm probably not the one to ask. For those reasons I'd probably say hardy hibiscus would be my choice for adding a tropical feeling to a zone 5 garden. That, and plants with large leaves, like Sum and Substance hosta, or petasites. -
Zone denial - HAH! Brilliant! -
Ok gonna have to use that one Douglas! Great coin
