I had wanted white cabinets and a white backsplash but was gonna paint the walls a light gold color. I'm rethinking now that that may not look good. Any thoughts???

I don't think that it would look bad, depending on the shade of gold. Is it a golden yellow or more a spicy mustard gold?

@MaryStLouis Thank you for your info. The gold is sort of like a light buttery cream color. Actually, it's called "Lamplight". I think it's Valspar.

I love the color. Tickertape or Wedding Bells would be good off-whites to consider since they both show up as the lightest shades on the Valspar color chips for Lamplight. Try buying some samples, paint large squares of color on a white foam board and live with them for a while, looking at the color changes during different times of the day and night.

Our kitchen is painted Behr's "Butter Cookie", a light warm yellow. In my experience, Behr paint covers better than Valspar.

@Darla I've seen the "Butter Cookie" I liked that one too. Our kitchen can be on the dark side and I was looking for something that would lighten it up a little.

I have used a shade of gold in the kitchen. With white cabinets, may I suggest you not go too dark. And, as always, you can paint only the backsplash before investing time and money to see if you like it!

@Linda J Thank you for the info. That's just what I was thinking, paint the back splash to see if I like it or not. I"m not sure about the counter top yet though.

@Alice I was thinking. I would suggest you address the countertop before committing to a shade of gold. Without sounding like a know-it-all, I am a retired residential designer and I can tell you the countertop will play a very large roll in the color choice for the walls. Also, I would be OK to use two shades in this space. Maybe darker on the backsplash and lighter on the walls. Consider how the light is going to effect this color also. Usually you would put the darker color where you have more light exposure. Of course, at the end of the day, you are the boss! I hope these suggestions help.! Happy New Year to you and yours!

@MaryStLouis I was planning on just using the silver for the knobs on the cabinets and drawers. I have red mugs and cereal bowls ironstone, and the rest of my dishes are white corelle. I have a red canister set and another with gold and reds in it. My valances match my gold and red canister. I have a built in hutch I'm thinking of painting a different color to make it look like a piece of furniture. Thank you again for you helpfulness.

Yea! That is exactly what I would normally do. That can throw a lot of people. Too many choices, usually. Sounds like you have a comfort level with that approach. NOW GIRL, select your color scheme from the fabric. Remember to vary the intensity of the colors, i.e. lighter hues and darker tints of the same colors. Kinda like looking at a paint chart, you know, light to dark. You will be surprised at the interest you will create in your space by using this little trick. Good luck!

@Linda J Thank you so much for your useful information. Both yourself and MaryStLouis have been very helpful. The colors in my kitchen at this point are mainly gold, red and hints of black.

The gold and white scheme is great, although a nice butter yellow might work as well. Also, think about adding an accent color. Red would look fabulous with the white and gold or yellow.

@Terry Yupe, red is gonna be my accent color. Already have tons of red accents in my kitchen. Thanks for the info is great appreciated and helpful.
