Any one pull the plastic off contractor grade cabinets and painted!

We have an amazing amount of cabinets, but they are all contractor grade white. I have thought about putting antiquing in the groove around the doors, but still contractor grade cabinets and look. A big box company came and stated that for a mere $26,000, they could reface the cabinets!!
Honestly, they did not look nearly as offensive as they had in the morning. Can new (wooden doors) be put on the cabinet boxes?? Carrie

You can put on n new doors..or paint them. Rustoleum has Transformations..a paint kit for cabinets. Make sure you follow their directions closely. Your cabinets will be beautiful. Or you can chalk paint them..but make sure you seal with several coats of poly.

Yes, you can put new doors on the cabinet framing. Or you can paint them. Take the doors down and remove all the hardware. Prime everything with a good primer, then paint however you like. You can reuse the old hardware, or buy new for a totally new look!

Any chance you can add a picture? In one of my bathrooms, I contemplated removing the outer trim around the cabinet doors and adding 3 1/2" stock board/planks to give them a beautiful "Shaker" look. The great thing about the Shaker look is no mitering of the wood, just clean straight cuts...:) A new coat of white paint and black hardware would give depth. Another option is to add more detailed trim to the existing trim and then glazing. Good luck...:)

@Carrie Krumrie The picture sure helps to understand...:) It would be pretty much impossible to remove or add more. It does look like it has a pretty good finish. Could you take some acrylic craft paint and do a trial antiquing on one to see if you like it? The acrylic should wash right off. Sometime adding different knobs and pulls can give a dramatic change also. Good luck with it.....$26,000 is a huge chunk of change...:)

do not try to remove the plastic coating. underneath is junk but all held together by the plastic membrane. Sand and then repaint with primer and then anything else you want. Rustoleum product mentioned above is probably good, so is melamine paint. You want something hard so you want a semi or hi gloss paint (has more hardeners in it). An oil paint will give you the best and hardest finish but today latex or acrylic paint is almost as good. You could also give them some moulding to change their looks. Certainly beats buying new doors.

The Habitat ReStore in my city (Memphis) always has an abundance of brand new shaker style doors... for like $3 a piece. Not sure where you are in GA, but if a decent drive from Rome, GA, there is a company called Builder's Salvage (706-232-8880) that has an abundance of lower cost cabinet options, both finished and not, and all the boxes and doors already assembled. If they don't have what you're looking for, they recommend a Mr Smith, who is a very reasonably priced cabinet maker and installer.
