Okay talented and creative people! I just found this by the dumpster. The pieces are sort of falling apart from each other but otherwise it seems totally reusable. Now for what? I want something WOW for the new year!

That's a great idea! I don't have a little chair set for my toddler. Thanks!

Since the pieces are coming loose, why not take it all apart? I see a unique towel rack with the back piece, and a small storage shelf with the seat.

Since you say it's a bit shaky, gently knock it completely apart. Use a rubber mallet or cover a hammer with something soft like an old sock filled with a towel. Then, scrape out any old glue you see in the old areas. Brush in new wood glue and put the chair back together and clamp it for 24 hours to allow the glue to fully dry. If you don't have clamps, you can use sturdy rope or even old extension cords. Once it's been tightened up, you will have a blank canvas upon which to create.

If it was my chair I would paint it a 'pop' color (red for me) and glaze it before spraying it with a topcoat. I would recover the chair pad with pretty fabric, put it back together and call it done. Spray paint is your friend when working on chairs. @Swan Road Designs gave you good instructions on fixing the loose chair joints.

I'd remove the back of the chair and paint it a bright red and yellow. Then hang in my kitchen to display my grandkids art pictures.

Take the back off and hang it on the wall in the bathroom for decorative hand towels then make the chair bottom a stool to use for folded bath towels

Here is an old chair I updated. Used silver to go with a mid century chest I had painted. Used a pale rose vinyl to cover chair. Have two of them. Turned out very well. Well, being a non geek computer wise, and using a new app, just go to my posts and you will see the chair and the chest if you are interested. I tried to post the pic but it vanished.

I would Repair and use it like a Chair. Take the Seat off til later...Scrub good with Murphy's Oil Soap in some water or mild dish soap.. Rince well and Dry... Sand and if its nice wood then simply wipe clean and use a matching Stain to give it a fresh finish and satin Poly several coats., then see if you could find a old Brown leather Jacket and cut it apart and use it to Recover The Seat... ( adding some new padding underneath)....or go wild and just paint it a Fresh bright Color and use matching Fabric to Recover the Seat.

The chair is an attractive, timeless design that will complement just about any decor depending upon the OTHER decor of your house. I suggest you gently pull it apart, reglue and clamp it using wood glue or (if you'd like to survive an atom bomb) Gorilla glue, lightly sand it, and then either refinish or paint it. The wood is greyed, but it doesn't look so far gone that a light sanding wouldn't expose fresh wood if you'd like to stain it. If not, it will look equally attractive painted. White paint goes with most pastel decor, primary colors will help it blend in with mid-century modern decor, and a dark coffee stain/paint or black paint will help it blend in with a sleek contemporary decor. Just pull off the seat cover and staple down a pretty new upholstery remnant that compliments your existing decor and you have a functional chair that would otherwise sell for far more money.

Enclose the area around the legs for storage. Then replace the seat with plywood, paint the whole chair, put hooks in the back of the chair and hang the whole thing above the toilet. Now you can store extra t-paper hang what ever you want and even place flowers on the old seat.

keep the legs as is. my color would be purple for the chair, with a nice print in fabric or vinyl print. if you use fabric before you put the seat back on the chair spray waterproof on the fab let it try 2 - 3 days.

I did the same thing. I unscrewed the seat. Removed the nasty material on the seat & replaced it with a " Paris" print. What a difference! Use whatever print style you have in your room. You can stain the wood to whatever color goes with your decor an rd style.

Why not take the seat off. Build a box pet the seat on top of the box to put towels or toilet paper in.Use the back of the chair to hang on the wall for the towels and wash cloths. Or use the box seat in any room of the house for extra seating and the back to hang in the kitchen for towels or from the ceiling as a pot rack.

If you're into a kind of country/early American motif, you can replace the seat (or re-engineer the current one) so that it accommodates a small waste paper basket, then you can use the chair back for a magazine or towel rack. The lower rungs could be re-engineered to hold surplus TP for a bathroom.

Take apart, seat off, too. Clean well with TSP and water. Dry well. Let sit in sun for half a day to really dry well .Reglue and clamp. Spray paint whole chair metallic gold. Reupholster the chair seat with new batting/padding and fabric with some gold in it, be it stripe, fleck ,paisley, whatever with background color of your choice to fit it with your decor. Use as a desk chair or as side chair in liv. room, din. room or bedroom.

You've likely seen this done already, but remove seat, and use as a "garden chair" by putting chicken wire in the bottom, moss, etc., and planting flowers for each season. You can stain or paint the wood parts in funky colors. I love mine! I also have a metal headboard and foot board in various parts of my garden where vines wrap around them. Love them!!!

This summer I saw a chair like this in a pub in Scotland. They had actually cut it in half-right down the middle and hung it as a shelf on the wall! It was amazing!
  • Ltt834476 Ltt834476 on Jan 04, 2015
Since its falling apart, you can also remove the padding and just keep the frame. In the hole of the seat add that mossy planter stuff found at Lowe's and add a pretty hanging plant. Add some art work to back of chair and use it in a garden.
