Thrifted Desk Clock Turned Pretty Bird House

In the bitter cold days of winter following the holidays, it's hard not to start thinking Spring! I love making my backyard wildlife-friendly, so creating birdhouses is always at the top of my list...including a DIY birdhouse using a thrift store clock!
While at the thrift store, I fell in love with this clock- I knew I could turn it into something else!
The first step was to simply remove its clock components- easy, they just popped out!
I loved that it already had a round hole for bird access, but the hole was too big, so we made a small insert that reduced the hole size.
I painted and sealed it with waterproofer, then glued it to the inside of the clock.
Then, I added a stack of wine corks to the interior. Birds want the nest to be parallel to the access point, so I needed to raise the bottom, so-to-speak. I also drilled a hole in the top and added a large eye held in place with a nut (for hanging purposes).
To finish it up, I reinserted the back panel, glued it in place, and then waterproofed the entire thing. To get things started for the birds, I pushed some dried grasses, twigs and pine needles into the hole. I also glued a wooden spool to the outside for a perch.
And there you have it- my clock birdhouse!
