DIY Faux Enamel Wear Bucket

I’m going to be better about composting this year but in order to do that, I need a cute bin on my counter to inspire me. I had the perfect size metal bucket but it was in pretty sad shape.
Here it is in all it’s glory. Here’s the back story. Last year, my aunt sent me a beautiful amaryllis in this bucket. The design on the bucket was a dark green color with a Christmas graphic. After the amaryllis faded away, the bucket got left outside to face the elements for an entire year and the photo on the left is what it looked like before I rescued it.
Using a rusty bucket gave me an advantage to easily recreate chipped enamel wear.
Once the bucket is full, I’ll dump it outside into a composting bin and hopefully by spring, I’ll have rich compost. More information and the tutorial is on my blog at the URL below.

Am I missing something? I don't see anywhere on here how you got the look. What paint did you use?

Your bucket turned out fabulous!! I’ve had issues with the paint pealing off of metal projects. What specific type of paint did you use & how long did you let it dry? I didn’t see any “how to” steps in the article.

You may find you need a lid on this. Even if you empty it a couple of times per day, the contents can smell. Looks cute!

@Carole thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye (or nose) on it and maybe add some type of lid if needed. :)

I agree with Carole - definitely don't wait until it's full to empty it, unless you get through a huge amount of vegetable waste each day. It's good if you have an outdoor tap somewhere on the way back from the compost bin to your kitchen to rinse it out.

Thanks Kate. I've been emptying it fairly often. A lot of times I just have coffee grinds and those can wait.
