Pry Bars are Handy, But Can Do Damage... A Card Trick Can Help
by
Brian Campbell, Basswood Artisan Carpentry
(IC: professional)
If you have a molding to remove, see if you can slip a single playing card in the space before using a putty knife or flat bar. Playing cards are thinner than these tools and relatively stiff. Then slip a second card in and slide your knife or pry bar between the two playing cards. The Cards work like a shoehorn and help to protect the molding and wall or other surface from damage.
