What is a brayer?

I was reading about how to transfer photos to furniture using mod podge. It said to apply the photo using a brayer then let dry for at least 6 hours.

A brayer is a hand roller used in printmaking techniques to spread ink in the process of offsetting an image from a plate to paper.

The roller itself is made of very hard rubber with a metal handle. It is available at any craft store and is relatively inexpensive. It is a unique but very useful item. A brayer is also useful when hanging wallpaper to get out any air bubbles and to roll the edges to ensure they adhere well to the wall surface.

Photo examples of brayers: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=brayer&FORM=HDRSC2 I have a small wooden one that came with a wallpaper kit for rolling the seams so you may find them in the hardware store too, or Home Depot, Lowes etc.

The one for wallpaper is also called a seam roller, but may be too small for your purpose. Look in the printing area of a craft store for one about 4" or 5" wide. If you need a large one check the flooring or cabinet area of Lowes or Home Depot. You can also look online for a company that sells to printing company.
