Kitchen Sink Shelf

I've always loved the idea of open shelves in my kitchen. But have way too many sippy cups for that! So I decided to use these wood corbels that I picked up for just $4 to add a shelf above my kitchen sink window. It gives me a place to display kitchen stuff, while still keeping all my closed door cabinetry. I also used Miss Mustard Seeds milk paint for the project. Still unsure of what I think of this paint.

If you are looking for wood corbels Home Depot sells ones for only $10 and they have a great profile.

Terri Yip Hoi-Rosa I found them at a flea market here in Raleigh. They weren't the nice antique ones I had been looking for but for $4 I couldn't pass them up.

Town and Country Living the milk paint wasn't difficult to work with. BUT you never know if it will actually work or not. I've only used it on 3 things so far and it only worked on the corbels. The other 2 pieces just looked like regular old paint. And with milk paint being so expensive it's kind of a gamble. But I do recommend trying it.

Jeanine Wester I bought my light from my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $10. It was brass and I just spray painted it. The ReStore ALWAYS has these lights in stock. But you can also pick one up for $30 from Home Depot (and you can just spray paint it the colour you want).

What, if anything, are you planning to put on the shelf? It really looks sweet.

Someone recently posted something similar on Hometalk and they placed old mason jars up there!

It turned out just darling. I also like the curtains. My cupboard are right next to my window like yours and I like the idea of putting the curtain rod against the cupboards, it lets more light into the window. I think you made a good choice with your budget. Now Im heading over to check out your blog:)

If you decide to change things up a bit you could move your cute little curtain to the top and put the tension rod on the corbels.

Cynthia Baldwin lol my husband has told me he doesn't think we need any more clutter so it may stay bare for awhile.

I love that Pop Daisy fabric. I just used the same print on my sewing cabinet. It makes me feel happy when I see it. Excellent place for it above the kitchen sink!

lol back at ya....I get the same little talk just about every week or so. My standard reply is, "yes, I know, and I am working on it!!!" Empty or not, the shelf is delightful! Your bright, colorful curtains make me smile....my kind of gal !! P.S. Raleigh is a lovely place; my sister lives in Elon.
