Cover for a La-Z-Boy

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to cover this chair. The wood is beautiful, so I'd rather not make a slip cover that covers the entire thing. The main question is how to cover the rear cushion.

If you can detach the whole back part with the cushion attached, you might be able to make a pattern. Then you need a machine capable of sewing upholstery fabric. If you really love this chair (looks so comfy), I think I'd get a pro to do it.

I agree with @Marion Nesbitt. Try to make a pattern from the old material. What does the back of the chair look like? Is is covered in the black vinyl as well? If so, your options are limited, and it might prevent the option of a detached cushion for the back. I hope you have success with this project!

Sew it tight and stitch a cover in cotton fabric. Simple. Thats what i did to my chairs.

we took the cushions off and used them as a pattern, sewing the material tightly so that it fits over the foam tight and won't roll up when it is sat on. It can be done! Take your time, this may take many tears and a few cuss words but you can do it!

I was planning on covering the arm cushions, and making a slip cover for the seat. The leather around the sides if the chair, and the skirt, are still in good condition. I'm beginning to think that the only simple solution to the back is to make an elasticized cover that will hug the cushion, and then add ties that would tie behind the chair to help keep it on. I have some heavy fabric that matches the couch pretty well, which should help make it work even if I don't do a fancy job. (I figure anything's an improvement over having a couple of old comforters tossed on it!)

I agree....I once had a chair like this, wish I had paid to have it recovered...instead of giving it away. Mechanism was wonderful, Can trust a Laz-e-boy.

I tried a very simple, *temporary*, upholstery project on an antique rocker that looked similar. I stapled the fabric and covered with fabric trim… Ten years later (!!!) it still looks good. ;-)
