A little something I made as a housewarming gift for a friend.
I love to decopage and decided I wanted to make my friend a gift for buying her first house. I told her to send me her favorite family photo.
I started with this picket fence wood piece I picked up at a craft store. I also bought an 8x8 piece that I didn't take a picture of. I painted the fence black, let it dry then put two coates of white paint on it and distressed it with a disposable fingernail file. I painted the frame with a silver paint. I printed off the words from Google that said Family, Live, Laugh, Love and I reversed the print on my computer and printed it on my laser jet printer. The picture I also reversed given that there were words printed on her son's shirt that I didn't want to read backwards. I sent it to my local drugstore from my computer and had them print it on an 8x10 for about $3.50. I then took the picture to the UPS store to copy on their laser jet printer because mine only prints in black and white. It cost me 35 cents. I painted on a heavy coat of Mod Podge on the surface where I wanted the letters and inside the 8x8 frame and did the same on the paper copies. I smoothed them down over the wood using first the sponge brush then a pot scraper from my kitchen but you could use an old credit card and do the same thing. The next day after it dried, I used a wet sponge and rubbed the print back and forth until the paper rubbed off leaving the print and the words. I then coated it again with a coat of Mod Podge. And Wala, the frame was done. I used an old fleur de lis rubber stamp for the corner. I love the way it turned out!!
