Revamped Garden Setting - From Rusty to Clean White

I bought this little garden setting on ebay for $45. It was rusty even though it was not very old. The chairs and table fold up. I think it is iron or steel - not cast aluminium. Anyhow, with a bit of TLC it is looking fresh as a daisy!
Update: These sold and are now at their new home.
The steps involved were:
Sand the paint and rust off using metal appropriate sandpaper. Then applied a rust converter using a bristle brush. Once that had been allowed to do its work - takes 24 hours, I had a better surface for painting.
I used Feronite for the rust converter and then painted again with the brush, a coat of Killrust Heavy Duty Primer for metal surfaces.
This stuff dries to a khaki green colour. A day later, I used a satin white enamel indoor/outdoor spray paint. It took 4 tins at about $8 per tin to get the coverage required.
To protect the joints from gumming up with paint and seizing up (remember this set folds flat for storage) I sprayed the joints with WD40 oil prior to painting.

Doesn't everyone have some furniture or decor item that's a bit rusty? I sure do. Thank you so much for stating which products you used I'll be buying them, for sure. I LOVE that FOLDING patio set (mine does not fold)... I'll be watching for some like that to show up in garages sales and our thrift stores...

I took steel wool and smoothed the rust off then used Rustoleum spray paint that had primer in it. Made it a breeze. Only exception, I used flat black.

It depends how bad the rust is before painting as to whether you need the rust converter or not. Light rust is usually OK with Rustoleum. Anything that has a lot of rust is worth going over with the rust converter first as it will give the piece a longer life. You only put the converter on the rusty bits to seal them.
