Yellowing on white linen
-
Fiona Powell on Jan 11, 2015Don't use bleach, it yellows things. The old fashioned was by using Paris blue powder ...you can still buy this, from Amazon for example. And good old fashioned sunlight. After using a tiny bit of paris blue in the washing water, letting the linens dry in sunlight is the best and safest way of bringing out the white. If it is true linen, (Derived from flax) , the more it is washed, the whiter it gets. Of course, the sunlight is tough this time of year ....but as soon as you get a sunny day, use it! Good luck!Helpful Reply

Kay Takash on Jan 11, 2015I tried laundering some tablecloths that had yellowed with no luck then to cleaners and no luck there either..then to a neighbor who used to do laundering for a living and she bleached them and they came out beautifully. She said she actually let them soak in bleach (diluted) so she became my go to lady for them.Helpful Reply

Mary Ann on Jan 11, 2015@Fiona Powell Is the Paris blue powder you mention from L'Oreal? Just wondering because that is what shows when I type in Paris blue powder on Amazon. Thanks if you can verify this.Helpful Reply

Fiona Powell on Jan 11, 2015My grandma called it Paris blue , but it was also called Reckitt's blue, or dolly blue ...(I'm British btw) ....I checked on Amazon and found something called Mrs. Stewart's Blue, which is the same thing http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PB5ZQ8?ie=UTF8&tag=oldint-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000PB5ZQ8Helpful Reply

Marie on Apr 04, 2015Peroxide will do it. Dilute about 60% peroxide, 40% water. Pour on stains, let it it in the sun for awhile, wash in hot water. Dry outside in sun and it will have happened.Helpful Reply
