How to paint metal kitchen cabinets

We brought an older home that has metal cabinets with glass doors in the kitchen. I happen to love them and they are in good shape. I do not know what to use on them. They haven't been painted in a long time, I can tell though, that they have been painted a couple of times. I can tell because where the doors meet the cabinets, paint is chipping off. We are on a tight budget, and will welcome any ideas, even if it's not painting them. Thanks for your consideration and ideas.

Make sure you clean them with TSP, Tri sodium Phosphate I believe its called .Do not get it on any thing you want to keep a shine on . You need this to take the grease and dirt off before you paint .Then use fresh water to rinse the cabinets off. I used a sponge roller when I painted my cabinets years ago . Good luck to you .

Use a heat gun on low to remove the paint, clean and prep well as if you are painting an automobile then use an "Automotive paint" or tractor paint. They'll look beautiful and they paint will adhere properly. After the paint sets then spray them with a clear automotive coat.

Thank you so much ladies! I will surely look into all of your suggestions! They are very helpful! I'll let you know what we end up doing. We had to replace our furnace, so it may be a little bit of time. The furnace was an emergency. UGH!
