Weathered the storm well!

For you kind Hometalk folks who were worried about us here in Delaware and how Hurricane Sandy treated us, I have great news! The wind howled and it rained like crazy, but our big trees stayed put, the basement didn't flood and the power even stayed on! There's a lot of tree limb, leaf and pine cone debris to clean up - but we're thrilled that's all we have to do! My best to you all, Barb

It was, Becky, but we were very fortunate. I am so sad for the folks who experienced devastation to their homes and neighborhoods.

I am too Barb. I'm just sick for what they are going through right now. I've heard from most of my friends now in that area. Two are without power, but were able to get word out to mutual friends that they were okay.

My heart goes out to all those who have suffered through these things that we have no control over and can only hope to take cover. Each time I am reminded of Hugo in SC in '89. 8 months pregnant, Police Officer on call, on fetal monitor 2x day, no electricity, phone, water for 11 days. Pray, pray, Pray for those people that did not deserve this, but will make it through anyway. They know survival, and as winds and rains howled around them, they knew or found humility or a higher power I ...»
promise. We must have hope and prayer for our country and our fellow humans! God bless them all. I think that sites like this one can maybe show people how to "weather" these things with some of the ideas and DIYs that can be posted in order to lessen the effect on our homes. My idea...I think that cables should be cemented in the ground, then strapped across the roof to the other side and cemented there. This has been my idea since Hugo. I may patent this idea.

Happy that all is well. We are on Long Island - our house suffered minimally, but some neighbors have dangerous downed trees and power lines and are without electricity. I have nothing to complain about!! I watch the news and see the devastation at our beach communities - places where I have loved to spend my summer months. Prayers and support are needed for those who are now without homes. God bless us all!

I thought these were pics of a treatment to make the gazebo and house looked loved and well lived in! Glad you came out of the hurricane fairly unscathed.

Tee Hee!! Nope, there was about 2 inches of leaf, twig and pine debris covering our whole property from the winds. But, luckily, that was all!

Relieved that you and family are safe and sound. Hope you didn't loose power like NJ and NY.. My hometown of Baldwin LI NY finally got their power back. Oceanside LI, next to Baldwin still needs alot of help. So sorry for you all that went through that. You have had your share of storms lately. Sheeeesh!

It pretty much missed us - we just got terrible winds and rain. Just 30 minutes north of us is where Sandy made land and tore so much up. Our area was very lucky!
