What is the product one would use in order to protect a piece of wooden or laminate house furniture that you now want to use outside?

For Natural wood grain and such I use a penetrating oil finish....for other stuff nothing beats a good exterior paint.

One added concern if a laminate is used...the "core" of most laminates is comprised of particle board, if it get wet is well swell and never be the same...I have never seen any one use this type of stuff outdoors.
