How to Remove Baked on Food With Water

5 Minutes
Easy

We all have those pans and skillets that are coated with baked on food. I recently cooked some hamburgers and was left with this mess. Here's my trick for how to clean a burnt pot with water.

Yuck! This is the results of cooking hamburger patties (too cold out to grill!) I used to pull the old "let it soak" method, as in "I'm going to try and ignore that mess as long as I can!"

Ok, so here's what you need: about 4 cups of tap water and your stove. Put your messy pan back on the stove and increase the heat. Yes, I said increase.

Next, pour in the water and allow it to come to a boil. Let it boil for a few minutes. I usually finish my dinner preparations while this is happening. After a few minutes, take a metal or hard plastic spatula and gently rub the bottom of the pan to help remove any remaining food. Most of it should have boiled off and is floating free.

Here's my pan after most of the food had boiled off. Big difference, huh?! Finish by washing the pan as you normally would.

And here it is, minutes later, clean and ready to be put away! No more walking by the sink and refilling dirty pans with m-o-r-e water and soap just so you can ignore it a little longer! Ok, maybe that was just me ;) There's more detailed info on the blog!!

Add a little vinegar and a desert spoon of bicarbonate of soda and you can practically wipe away the char after boiling on stovetop.

I make 'gravy' for my doggies to get my pans clean. it gets everything that's burnt on off quickly. Just add a cup of hot water and bring it to a boil. Add about 1/4 cup of flour stirring until smooth, add i cup cold water or 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of milk. if you gravy is too oily just lay a paper towel on top while it cools. my doggies love it...
