Painting tile

I have ceramic tile for my back splash. I don't like the color, so I was wondering if it's possible to paint it?

Yes, prime first and use an oil based paint. Or go to a flooring store and see what they recommend. Usually SW has good customer service for that sort of thing.

Dee is spot on with this answer. Painting is not that big of a deal, but the real trick is to prep the existing tile properly. Because your painting an area in a kitchen your most likely to have some fine grease build up on the tiles and grouting. You need to carefully clean the tile really well using degreaser. Do this several times to be sure you have removed everything. You will see if you did it properly as when you paint if you missed a spot the paint will create what is called a fish eye. If this occurs a very tiny drop of dish soap on the end of a Q-tip placed on the spot should do the trick to fill the tiny hole up with paint. Epoxy paint is ideal for this as it becomes hard and resistant to scrubbing when the backsplash gets dirty. But any good quality paint store should be able to assist you with the paints that work the best.

It is true about painting for the use in the kitchen and it should be semi gloss or high enamel but it will be a little different because the paint on ceramic are originally bake in and cannot reheat the color in. Ceramic can be painted over. ALisa New York

Im from Canada so don't know if they carry this product in the US. I used a primer paint product called Stix on my entire tile wall in the my bathroom, a very large area. The nice part about this product is that it is latex base. After cleaning the tile really well I applied 2 coats and then was able to use any color over that. It has been 2 years since it was painted and the paint has not come off or scratched. It would work just as well on the kitchen tiles. Very tough and durable. Hopefully you can find that product or a similar one.
