My antique squeaky bed!

My antique poster bed is so nice but it squeaks at the headboard and foot board every time I move and I mean any small movement at all. I can turn my head and it squeaks. This type of bed, with the mattress and box springs sits up high, (30 1/2 inches) from the floor to the top of mattress. The height of the bed may not have anything to do with the squeaking but I thought I would mention it. Does anyone have a remedy?

Maybe try squirting some baby powder in the joints - that usually works on wood floors that squeak - maybe it will work on your bed frame. Hope this helps!

@Marcia Brazil I would have never thought of baby powder! Thank you so much for the input. Did you know that baby powder will get rid of ants in your house! My mother had tiny ants coming into her kitchen for many years and we could never find where they were coming in. I found the info about baby powder on the internet and did not believe it! I sprinkled (thinly) along their route. After 3 to four days, they were gone. Best of all, no toxic chemicals were used.

Try spraying WD 40 on the joints.

@MiLee Belasto Thank you for the tip! With your tip and the one above, I am going to try both.

You could also take out the bolts or screws holding it together and wrap a little fine steel wool on the bolt or screw, then put it back in. This will make the hole tighter and you'll have less room for the bolt or screw to wiggle and make noise.

Lora, I may try this but not today--I would have to take the bed apart first. However, I am making notes of your info-I have a DIY notebook that I place these types of helpful hints in.

Check to make sure nothing is loose.Old wood shrinks sometimes. It might need to be reinforced.

Try rubber washers between wherever metal meets metal or metal meets wood.\

Wow! Would have never thought of this. You got other uses for rubber washers?
