Help for creeping area rug

I have a Large (10'x12) beautiful wool area rug placed on top of wall to wall carpet in our heavily trafficked den. The area rug has wrinkled very badly at far end of room near sliding glass door. It hurts to look at it but even worse - the wrinkles are high enough that I've nearly tripped over them several times. Is there a way to get the wrinkles out and thereafter hold the area rug securely in place to stop wrinkles from coming back? Will water or steam work? We live in the California desert and things dry very fast here.

Do you have a rug pad beneath the rug? A high quality pad should hold it in place.

Purchase a good quality WIDE double back tape. The better the quality the better it will hold. That's what I used on mine. Apply it LIBERALLY to the back side of the rug, especially in the high traffic areas and areas of the wrinkles. It worked great for me.

I would steam wrinkle and set something on it to flatten it till dry. Then use double stick rug tape. Will have to replace every once in awhile but will work

Thank you so much ladies - Yes there is a rug pad but that's wrinkled, too. If I apply the 2 sided rug tape is the tape applied to the carpeting removable without damaging the rug, or am I stuck w/it? (No pun intended) Is there a brand name for this :2 sided rug tape?

Should be able to tack down the underlay without damaging the carpeting. They dewrinkle the carpet and use the double-faced tape between it and the underlay.

Marion, should this be done professionally? I mean like by a carpet installer?

There should be a tack strip under the carpeting which holds it in place. I would call a professional in to install one if there isn't one on there now. They stretch the rug to secure to the strips which holds it flat. The carpet double sided sticky tape may help the area rug after that is done properly.
