Decks & Patios Painting

I used "Restore" on my deck this past summer. Comes in multiple colors, and did exactly what I was told it would do -

filled in cracks, covered well - no sanding invoived, Just powerwash, lite scrubbing at "mossy areas" and bang! I chose to not back roll the second coat and leave the finish product textured, to help when walking on it in icy conditions.

If this is Deck Restore - we bought a kit to 'experiment' on covering our pool deck/patio. Didn't get to try it as we had other 'issues' going on...with an 8K estimate to re do the patio - I just might have to go this route after all....cost will be significantly less to use this product - concrete is in good shape - just ugly...we have to add some concrete to fill in low spots - guess we are waiting til spring!! : )

Thank you Terri. Don't worry about the confusion. I've been working almost three weeks now on trying to save my desktop computer and the photos on it so my brain is pretty much fried for anything else.

As for the weather it's been very mild here this year but it's probably better to wait. I just hate to leave it raw all winter since I washed it bare. I wish I would have thought of this last month.

Way to check off that project!

Did you find their was much of a learning curve in getting it to look even?

Peace Painting Co., Inc. - No. The only trouble I have had is getting the same look where the restore rollers won't fit. ex: between all the spindles. Used an old, but good paint brush to "dab" at those areas. No one noticed any difference unless they got up really close and inspected it. The zainey weather was/is my biggest obstacle to finishing the dabbing. Lowe's also had a video on applying it, so I watched that too, but the ...»
directions on the can were perfect, along w/ your advice about the weather.... Thank you so much for everything!!!!

Our deck is in desperate need of repair. I stained it a couple of summers ago and It looks like it's never been touched. Thank you for sharing this product.

Brandi, after all the snow and ice this past winter, with summer like days here and there, I am glad that I did use Restore. It looks as nice as the day I applied it. and there are no signs of any further cracks developing. Money well spent in my opinion!!!!

Brandi I put a lot of sweat into sanding and staining our deck last summer and now it looks like I never touched it either ! Wish I had enough $$ to use the recycled plastic type deck wood to make a new deck.

I know what you mean, Mary I. We have 3 dogs that track a lot of mud on our deck when it rains. Eventually I would like to screen it in. Still waiting on that money tree though! LOL!

Brandi and Mary I. - I really would recommend trying Restore. If you leave the second coat rough like I did, I think it would also help with the mud from the dogs. It cost me approximately $210.00 to do two coats on a 15 x 20 deck, stairs, railings and spindles. I wish I had taken a better before picture that showed all the cracks in it, that just applying Restore took care of.

We are planning on using this product very soon. We added new decking around a pool and enlarged our existing deck. The older deck has developed splinters and some weak spots. I think this will do the trick. Thanks for sharing. I am eager to get this done before we open the pool. Plus it will not be as slippery!

It goes on quite thick and I found that it dried fast as well. I don't think being "slippery" will be as much trouble as getting a splinter in your foot - let me know how you like it.

The product is called "Rstore or Restore It" and sold in the paint departments. I have had no problems with bare feet on it. Sorry, no more pictures as it is done, but I will say that if filled cracks that were up to a 1/4 to 1/2" wide by applying both coats.

we used this last fall on our deck.....we followed all the directions, cleaned the deck etc. we have dogs. this restore coating HOLDS dirt like crazy! tried to power wash it off but it won't come off. I suppose the texture holds the dirt. won't ever use this again!

I used this product on an old splintered deck two years ago and it has exceeded my expectations and I don't have to worry about little kids getting hurt on it. It made the deck look brand new. I did try to clean yesterday with TSP, but it didn't do a great job of getting the mildew and algea off the area that is in the shade. I'll go back with a mixture of equal parts of Dawn, Simple Green and bleach mixed with warm water. I have used this for years to clean house siding and it really ...»
works, doesn't kills your plants and is wallet friendly. There are some tricks for siding though, you have to wet it first and work with a soft scrub brush on a stick from the bottom up, otherwise you can be left with discoloration that may not go away.

@ Paula and Mary - Peace Painting Company told me about this product here on HT. You may want to contact them to see about cleaning mildew and dirt off. I am almost positive that they will have answers to your problems as, I have had none of the issues that y'all have had (yet). I would be interested in hearing what they say, if you do contact them, just in case...

It looks great !! I'm sure it will clean off dirt and whatever else gets on it as long as you use good detergents to clean it with that won't hurt the color or texture..

The other thing is that I chose not to back roll the second coat to be smooth as the directions suggested. I wanted a rough texture to help my feet grip it better when we are in the winter months. I have recently just taken the regular hose to it, and all the dirt came right off. ONec again, I would check with Peace Painting Company about what you could use to clean it with.

@ Phil - they have video's were it is sold that will give you a bigger picture of decks It ...»

worked on. I am still happy as can be that I used it on my deck!
