There are specially designed spray paints now that bond incredibly well to plastic and vinyl. I would sample on the interior of a cupboard door to test the adherence. If you can't remove it from there I would say you are safe.. I am doing my Vinyl doors and windows at this time and they look great.
  • Those vinyl cabinets are called Thermofoil. This is a process where a plastic coating is applied to less then quality wood that is normally man made so it is stable and does not warp. There are many paints that can be used if your looking to change it up. The real trick however is the prep. Be sure to clean, clean, clean the surfaces. If these are located or were located in a kitchen you can bet there is grease on them. TSP is cleaner of choice, however check with manufacture of the paint your using for what they suggest. A sanding is also required to assure that the paint will "bite" into the surface and adhere properly. 3-M sanding pads are ideal for this type of prep. I would suggest however that you visit a professional paint supply store if not for paint, but professional advice on the correct paints to use that are available for this type of surface. Have fun, and take photos!

Chalk paint would stick..but it would take at least three coats. I would make my own paint, and do not deal with wax, use a good poly.
