Thrift Shop Banana Stand House Plant Holder

On one of my recent thrift shop visits, I purchased this oak banana stand for $2. I had no intention of hanging my bananas on it. See how I transformed this uninteresting find into a fun and functional piece of home decor.
First I painted the banana stand with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White. I also distressed the piece with sand paper. No priming or sanding needed with chalk paint!
I chose a fun French garden graphic from the Graphics Fairy website.
I added the graphic using the Mod Podge image transfer method. See my blog for details.
I chose a small rustic galvanized pail for my planter and a small Hoya or wax plant as my foliage. Even though I chose a live plant, you could also use faux plants.
I think my banana stand/house plant holder is a fun and easy project that you can easily complete for less than $10 including the plant!
