Flat lawn but uneven to walk on

My lawn is a more meadow than lawn but in recent years has become lumpy to walk on. Is this a sign that it needs to be detached (not sure if I used the term correctly). Thank you for any help.

I was told that it is caused by dew worms... but I don't have a solution.

Thank you, this is a possibility. I looked up dew worms after your suggestion and that may be the answer. I will check it out when the weather warms up.

This happens every spring on our lawn in the country. The lumps are caused by moles.

@Lurana Milchalk Kelly thank you but no moles in the yard, these are much smaller lump, besides our cats took care of the moles in the yard many years ago.

You could make a pathway. To save money it could be narrow. Prevent mud puddles by creating good drainage. Best pathway materials are concrete sand 2 inches thick, raked, moistened and packed. Top this off with 2 to 3 inches of unsifted granite scree ( stone dust ). This stuff packs very nicely. Easy to maintain such a path with a blower or lightweight floppy steel leaf rake. Good luck !

Could also be an overabundance of earthworms, in which case trying "rolling" your lawn in early spring.

I was told that the elderly woman that lived here had all her grass killed off first. Then when she had grass replanted she had them airate (not sure of spelling). Neighbors said they used a roller that put holes in the ground. Now when you walk on the ground it is like walking on gravel LOL. I have a heck of a time mowing. Any suggestions, besides taking up all the grass the correct way putting new soil on to level the ground and reroll it but with a flat roller. I have a hard time walking due to health issues so I hope this summer I can fix it cheaply.
