Should I remove cabinets in my small bathroom?

Susan on Jan 22, 2015I've had some sort of closed door storage over my toilet for years...but removed it when I renovated recently. My bathroom isn't the biggest either..bottom line, it looks bigger, clearer and less cluttered w/o anything there!Helpful Reply

Teri Hansen on Jan 22, 2015I agree with both of these answers and deal with this myself. I have a teeny tiny bath. Having the cabinet the same color as your walls does give illusion of larger space. Having a large mirror over your sink will also enlarge the look of the bath. My problem is I do not have good storage in my house and need the storage for this bath. Since that does not sound like your problem I would probably lean towards your idea of getting rid of the closed cabinet and put up open shelving. It will definitely give you that larger look you want and if you can make them glass shelves that would be even better. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Kristine Fiddelke on Jan 22, 2015It depends on what your floor is. The part under it may not be finished. If the new cabinet is larger there is no problem but if not you will have to replace the floor too.Helpful Reply

Betty on Jan 22, 2015These are above the toilet and that bathroom is so small I couldn't sit down in the floor if I had too. Only thing in there is the toilet, the tub/shower stall and the cabinets above the commode. The vanity is off that bathroom in a dressing area. I may try painting them to see the effect. If I don't like them I don't have any qualms about removing them.Helpful Reply

Rosalind Duran on Jan 22, 2015I wouldn't do it, unless you are a meticulous housekeeper, cuz you have everything exposed, but, if you do do this, you may want to transfer things you use, into some pretty container, like cotton balls, and cotton swabs in pretty glass container, etc. good luck!Helpful Reply

Betty on Jan 23, 2015I think I agree with Rosalind; I'm not a meticulous housekeeper. If I do anything I'll just pain them.Helpful Reply
