I would say that, sadly, commercial landscape design is generally less interesting than residential landscape design because it is, by definition, driven by business decisions, not idiosyncratic ones.

Those photos say it all. Business, like Mr Hunt says, goes entirely for minimal, low-cost, easy care, while the homeowner, like me, demands much more in the way of appearance in every single area. Reminds me of what a builder puts in the yard when he builds a house. Only what he can get away with, and only in the front for curb appeal to sell the house. The homeowner(s) are then left to really 'bring some life & value' to the property with the landscaping by taking it well beyond basic and boring.

Landscape is the 1st impression that either a company or individual presents to the public. I personally tend to do business faster with a company that has nice landscaping than one that doesn't.

Different consideration with regard to the watering and selection of plants. most commercial applications involve traffic areas that must be able to tolerate people walking on them, and must be easily accessed for maintenance. Commercial landscapes generally need heat, cold, or salt tolerant plants because of parking and sidewalk maintenance in extreme conditions. Finally commercial landscaping must pass safety inspection in many communities. grass cannot be long or block sidewalks, no plants can be witin so many feet of certain amenities, i.e.fire hydrants. Like everything else public, it has to conform to certain standards and rules.
