Numbered Dresser Makeover

I've had this old pine 4 drawer pine dresser for years just waiting for a makeover. I finally found some inspiration and got to work last week transforming this forgotten piece into something special. I painted the dresser in a navy blue paint and added wood numbers to the front. The numbers were stained in a dark stain and attached to the drawer fronts using liquid nails. It's now in my son's room as lego storage. The numbers really gave this piece a new look.
I stripped and sanded the top of the dresser, then stained it with some dark walnut stain.
To seal the top I used General Finishes matte finish.
For the rest of the dresser I used General Finishes Coastal Blue milk paint.
This is a beautiful, deep navy blue and it goes on like butter.
To finish off the piece, I added wood numbers, that I stained in the same dark walnut stain as the top of the dresser. I adhered them to the drawer fronts using construction adhesive.
To finish it all off, I filled the old holes from the old drawer hardware, which was no longer in working order, and replaced them with new oil rubbed bronze knobs.

Carole on Jan 23, 2015I love it. So often things are made over to what you might call a feminine aesthetic. This can be particularly true of the 'shabby chic' look. Lots of white and pinks. Nothing wrong with that at all. However, this piece would be snapped up by male and female alike. It looks great! Love the colour you chose and how you dressed it up for it's photo.
