Ideas for sprucing up my dresser

Doing my bedroom in white with just a small amount of burlap. I have this dresser (and a tall one to match) and think they are boring. I'm in love with the farmhouse rustic décor. Do you have a suggestion of how I can change these to fit this look?

@Kat I agree, I love the wood look and would not mess it up with cheap paint. Leave as is and move to another room, or sell it, donate, to someone who would love it as it is .

change the hardware......pull your things together on a silver tray.....insert vintage looking postcards under the glass.....the furniture has very clean, (think Shaker, Amish) lines......embrace it's inner beauty!!! might put bag of dried herbs or flowers in the drawers.....

@Carrie Krumrie haha, the stuff on top was just put there. Guess I should have taken everything off. Thanks for the postcard idea

If you go on facebook, there is a group called "Annie Sloan projects before/after". You could find some beautiful, weathered finishes there!!! If you choose not to paint it after all, maybe just change the handles to those black farmhouse cup pulls? Thinking.

Perhaps you should check out some of the shabby chic painting projects on here. Lots have been posted. You could also check out annie sloan paint on here to find more. I wouldn't look at the colours they use, just the final project and imagine it in white.

This looks in such good condition, I would not paint it. Organize your stuff better. Perhaps put them on a silver tray with some flowers. Maybe don't put as many items on top. If you must, change the hardware.

It looks like this is a mid-century modern dresser. I would hate to see you devalue the set by painting it. Put it on EBay then buy what you want with the money! :)

I agree. Do not paint this piece. There are other creative ways to incorporate a rustic / farmhouse look into your room. Focus on accessories, bedding, pieces of interest that will capture the eye versus an overhaul to a nice, clean lined piece of furniture. There are some great ideas in the comments above. Good luck!!

I would definitely take the chrome hardware off and replace it with something with a handle that has plain ceramic - antiqued if possible. I would also give the dresser a light sanding and apply a darker stain - sort of like dark drift wood. I would take the glass top off and replace it with an embroidered thrift shop runner and try to find a lamp that has a wood base rather then the ceramic, maybe a lamp that is made of drift wood or a carved animal would capture that farmhouse look you are after.

Don't paint them. Change the hardware and drape burlap over the top and down the sides. Get a tray or low rectangular basket to corral your stuff, think like objects in each. The old/antique postcards in the mirror is a good idea too or take it further with your favorite pictures copied in black and white.

oh why do all the country rustic people have these great mid-century pieces ?

Your best bet is to sell your lovely MCM pieces and buy something that fits your style better. MCM is very sought after now so you should have absolutely no trouble selling it.

Well, I didn't think anyone would be interested in something so very plain but I see that isn't true. For all you MCM lovers, I won't paint it and will sell it I guess. How do I figure out it's value? There are three pieces, this & a tall dresser and a nightstand. And...why can I only see 8 of 15 comments and can't get to the others????

@Debzhof look on the inside of the drawers or back of your pieces and see if you can find any markings. Often the brands are branded inside the drawers. Once you have the info you can Google and see what you can find out about them online. You can also take pictures of the markings and post on Hometalk and see if any of us can help you find out more info. I wish you lived close to me!

Wouldn't paint. Replace the hardware, etc. Then when/if you change your style, you still have the original hardware.

I am probably the only person on her to say....PAINT THEM!. I think off white chalk paint would spruce them up and then adhere burlap to the drawer fronts and update the hardware. Natural wood is fine but be adventurous. I chalk painted a buffet in off white, ecru and black and it made all the difference in the world.

Hi there, if you have a whole bunch of old suitcases or even a briefcase you can give your dresser a one-of-a-kind makeover using this tutorial icon https://acraftymix.com/blog/epic-stack-suitcases/

This is a super designed item and can be turned into the style you like with not too much trouble. Cut out board about 1 inch smaller all around than drawer size and cover with Burlap. Fit it back to drawers using double sided tape and the handles that exist. That way you will not be damaging the furniture, but will be giving it a new look to suit your current wishes.
