Any ideas for sprucing up this bathroom light fixture?

It's terribly ugly, but instead of replacing it I thought I could paint it. It is in my second bathroom above the sink.

Thanks. Vonnie

A vintage bulb is about all that you could do, but honestly? They can cost more than replacing the whole fixture!

I agree with BeckySue....I have replaced a lot of these over the years...you will most likley need to do some minor wall repairs and painting but that is worth it in my book.

Yep, I have to agree. Had a brass one that was about the last thing to go in the bathroom reno (still had to see, and didn't care if it got hurt). But hang on to the globe bulbs, they actually don't look bad in other fixtures.

Or, maybe dry brush paint the chrome and add those clear lightbulbs where you can see the filaments. Just a thought.

It depends on what look you would like. The mason jar lighting may work for some. I have a long wroth iron basket. It worked great for a pot hanger. That would make a great shade for a light fixture. Gutter lighting maybe . I am sure you will come up with something.

I purchased a top to a fireplace mantle, removed the upper and lower horizontal pieces of wood and placed it on the wall hiding the entire thing. I used brighter clearer bulbs and the lighting was great.

I have no way for photo but I made a shade for $1 .99 the same thing Etsy advertises for "beginning at $54". Go to hHpme Depot and buy a roof rain gutter. They are the correct length and the holes are right for letting light through. Slightly bend id

.bend it into a curve and tuck each end into a slotted vertical piece of cardboard glued to wall. Voila! Instant shade.....black or white, you can spray paint it to suit your decor color.

I had one of these lights on top of the medicine cabinet. What I did was: had a handyman remove the old light and put up a new board that I had painted white to match the medicine cabinet and he drilled a hole into the board to attach a new light fixture. Looks more stylish and as if it had been there from the beginning.
