Mold and mildew smell

My daughter recently had a whole house dehumidifier installed because of a mold problem in her house but the smell still lingers. Any suggestions to get rid of it or do we have to wash everything in the house?

Bleach anything that is able to be bleached, and make sure not to wash it off. Keep your windows open for a bit to air thr place out, and keep checking the places the mold was mostly growing in order to monitor it in case it comes back

Mold is a very serious issue. I would recommend professional remediation. I am dealing with the effect of working in a moldy environment. I developed asthma which is non-curable. Your daughter could be putting her health at risk breathing in the mold spores. They are everywhere in the house if it is an issue, as you said. That is why you can smell it. Bleach will work on surfaces where you can see it. I bought germicidal bleach, for my Florida home, in Home Depot.

WE don't have a significant mold build up problem but here in Fl ( even with AC) it is a non stop job-I recently looked down at the bottom of sliding doors on the showers and UGH!!!!! I hadn't noticed this before It never ends .I once got sick from mold( probably from the interior of on AC unit in a hotel) and it was very long lasting- keep up the battle

For the smell only you can put some charcoal in a dish in small areas or just tear open a bag of charcoal where it wont be in the way like in a basement and it will absorb musty oders.

White vinegar works same as charcoal. In the summer months I keep a small bowl of it to absorb the moldy smell that sometimes emits from my basement. It works for other smells as well such as pet orders.

You need to have a professional determine the extent of your mold problem. A dehumidifier will eliminate the moisture and cut down on the growth of the mold, but it will not remove the mold that is already there. And, since mold can cause serious health problems, it is best to have a professional take care of it unless it is just surface mold.

Recently had a bathroom flood issue---and I went on line and they recommended white vinegar #1 so I sprayed everything (not sure of the mix)---we removed and replaced all baseboards (plus lots of drywall)---let light in and air dried for several days---I personally stay away from bleach as inhaling this can also cause respiratory problems---but I agree clean up first then dehumidify.
