I recently purchased a beautiful vintage chinese wool rug at Webster's

It needs to be cleaned and I'm not sure if regular carpet cleaner would be safe. Any help on bringing vintage wool rug worthy for use?

I agree! Many of these, if not all, contain silk, and colors could fade or run. Although durable, they are fragile, and should be professionaly cleaned.

Thanks. I guess I'm going to have to "bite the bullet" and pay for professional cleaning.

Honestly, I would definitely go with a professional carpet cleaner for that kind of rug

I picked up a beautiful wool handmade Chinese rug on the side of the road. It had pet staines on it. Irolled it out onto my concrete driveway. I mixed up oxyclean and a large bucket of warm water and poured it all over the rug. I let it sit for an hour then rinsed it off with the water from my garden hose. Be sure to rinse it well. Then had my son help me hang it over my fence with the backside up. Turned out like new. No bleeding of colors at all. it took several days to drip dry. They wash wool handmade rugs in the rivers in foreign countries after making them. Sad thing is my cousin talked me out of it for her house. Well had several others anyway.

Oh forgot to say lightly scrub rug with a medium bristle brush before rinsing it!
