Upper kitchen cabinets with lift-up doors

Upper kitchen cabinets are placed too high up for top shelves to be accessible. I am considering replacing very top space with cabs that have lift-up doors...and then changing the dimensions of lower bottom doors. I have seen a pix of this browsing here!!..But I cannot find it again. Does anyone have experience with something like this? ....is it a matter of special hinges, and then re-sizing the doors to the bottom cabs that are left (opening in the usual way?? I believe the upper pull-out cabinets do not open when the lower parts do. Suggestions, please...and thanks!!!

Woodworkers Supply carries the hardware you need to make "lift doors". I am planning to use them for appliance garages. Available on line...

My house was built in the 50's and has cabinets all the way to the ceiling. The top cabinets have lift-up doors with the same hinges as the lower cabinets - only placed at the top. The only problem with this is having to hold the door open with one hand while retrieving objects with the other. I rarely use the very top cabinets and am planning to remove the doors, add trim and lighting, and use the top shelves to hold decorator items.
