Enlarge Your Small Space With a DIY Photo Mural!

Doesn't sound like it would make sense, a photo wall mural can enlarge a small room, but trust me, it can! And it's a DIY!
Ah, the before. Our tiny (12' x almost 8') guest bedroom is dark and well, tiny. After ending up with a paint color that wasn't the one I chose, I knew something else needed to be done to make this room feel much larger than it is in reality.
Searching long and hard, I was finding wall murals to be expensive or not large enough. Rather dismaying until I found big ones, affordable ones, on Menards' website. Bingo! Above is my helper pal Finn not really helping.
I had never done this before but I was in it to win it. Don't let it intimidate you either! After prepping, measuring, drawing, marking, and planning it all out, it was time to paste. Come read the whole story (and much more!) on my blog: humboldtartdept.blogspot.com.
Outlets, switches, narrow strips, and over door areas can be tricky but take your time. Be sure to have plenty of damp rags on hand. I used a 4" plastic putty knife to do the careful smoothing and it worked out well.
Yay, the after! It's not perfect, there are some minor rips and tears, I had some dried peeling issues, but with patience, a sharp knife and little more paste, it was solvable.
It's tough to photograph this small room for sure so it's hard to relay how much larger this itty bitty room feels. The ceiling feels higher, the room really feels more expansive and airier. Even the husband said the room feels bigger! Score! Definitely worth it! Be sure to click the blog link below to find out more about this project and many others I've been working on!
