Don't know what it is, but in my opinion: Lady slipper carries it's "pod" beneath the petals, not on top. Jack in the pulpit doesn't have petals like this nor a pod like this - produces a group of berries that looks sorta like a red blackberry. Poppies - the seed pod droops when the petals fall, in my experience - and is always sort of greenish/brownish - no matter the flower color. And I've never seen an Iris that carried a pod on top, either. So it looks like the ideas so far "might" be incorrect. Perhaps sending a pic via app - or taking to your home extension office would work. Don't like giving negative suggestions without a guess of my own, sorry.

was guessing by the strap shaped leaves that it must be an iris from some far away land or a new plant brought to earth by aliens from outer space.

could be a poppy but it looks like a lady slipper. If it is a lady slipper they are a protective flower and should not be dug up, as they are really getting very rare and you would be lucky to find one.

It is an Anemone Blue poppy going to seed. That is the seed pod in the center.

I looked up the various answers. My first thought was wild iris but after researching I have to go with anemone blue poppy. This one is past its prime and is going to seed.

@Lulu Dubin I think that it is an orchid that is past its prime. Those look like Orchid leaves.
