Try putting rubbing alcohol on a WHITE cloth, then gently rub IN ONE DIRECTION to remove the soil. You may need several cloths (hint: if you fold the cloth into square then unfold as you need a clean side, you can use fewer cloths).

I personally would use a solution of murphy's soap... if you spray it, you can just blot off the dirt with a super absorbant clothth (microbifre). this won't be drying to the leather and will leave a slight veg. oil that will sink in & add a little condition. You can repeat this carefully, jsut don't let it get at all saturated (think 'just the top surface'), and let dry at room temp. Water marks, stains may be in the surface coat; if not a priceless antique I would get one of those wood finishing touch-up markers and carefully work down to the surrounding shade. Stains, try different gentle solvents to lighten them; I like sSaddle-Soap as it cleans, conditions and provides prtection.
